PROJECT
THE SPRING SHOW DISPlaY
Plant wall installation with IoT & AR
Plant Wall is a team project built up for the 2018 Spring Show. It's a plant installation offering multiple interactions such as Conductive ink, IoT, projection and AR. The original concept is from my interaction project Green Tale. From the video below you can see more introductions to this project.

DESIGN
The plant wall
This video introduces well of the concept and the process of our work.
RESULT
IMPACT
This interaction wall was the highlight of 2018's Spring Show of Web design and new media. Hundreds of visitors came to interacted with the wall and we were glad to receive plenty of questions, praises and some doubts.
RESULT
My Role
I developed my interactive class project nicely and my professor, who's also the department vice director, offered me a chance to work with the best students from the whole web design and new media department, we together fulfilled the whole interaction design for the Academy of Art Spring Show 2018. During this project, I introduced the idea, did the story-telling, and worked on animations of the AR Kits.

BACKGROUND
PROJECT DETAIL
There are two parts of this installation. One is the plant wall with conductive ink. When people touch any ink lines, there will be an animation of projection pop out. The other part is three panels with AR interactions. Through those interactions, people will get know about plants' growing environment data.
In this video, a visitor is interacting with our plant wall. With pressing different elements on the wall, different animations show up.

PROCESS
Design Process
This part is the whole process we made. We created our story line and flow first. Then we divided into four small teams working on plant wall, visual and animation, IoT, AR.

PROCESS
TASK FLOW
We had our early brainstorm meetings to tell the storyline, define the flow of our design, figured out the interaction elements of our design. At first, we followed my original concept to make it AR interactive. After Professor Zheng showed us more interactive videos, we were all excited about the conductive Ink and would like to add it our design.

DESIGN
WALL DESIGN
The interactive wall was designed and executed by Tomas, he build the 3D model of all the elements on the wall and woodcut them out.

DESIGN
VISUAL DESIGN
Wei and Ashlynn created our cute characters, the elves living in the plants to tell people about the sunlight, the moisture, and the temperature. And they designed all the projection animations.

DESIGN
IOT PROCESS
Kyle and Vrusha worked on the IoT part. They set up the sensors of the conductive ink and coded to play the projection when people touch the sensors. For Example, when a user press the conductive ink near a plant, a character will come out to tell the moisture of the plant.

DESIGN
AR PROCESS
Anthony and I worked together on the AR panels. I transformed the character animations into Unity 3D scrips and Anthony coded in C# to make them alive.

DESIGN
Posters
I designed the poster of our project, which included three hidden characters to make people curious about what are them. And when be scanned, the three elf characters will pop out.

CONCLUSION
wHAT i learn
It was such a great time to work with these excellent people. They were all devoted, creative, and passionate. For example, Kyle slept at campus several nights to make sure the IoT set could be fixed well. I learned so much from them. From Ashylnn, I learned how to find inspirations for the character design. From Tomas, I developed an interest for 3D design. And now I'm good at Cinema 4D to create 3D scenes. We worked collaboratively and made it the highlight of the campus spring show. And I became a better designer with all of their help and motivations.
